"I have tea with honey and lemon and then I’m out the door."
I have not picked a favorite candidate from the crowd filling the clown car of Democratic hopefuls but I do respect a tea drinker no matter their political affiliation. Unless they are a complete monster (Did Göring drink tea?), I will tip my tea cozy to any imbiber of the righteous leaf.
In an August 2018 interview with The Cut, pre-presidential candidate Kamala Harris talked about her daily routine. In it, she mentions drinking tea twice. TWICE!
"If I’ve had a particularly crazy day, I try to squeeze in a nice hot bath before I go to bed. And I have a hot cup of tea, usually some kind of chamomile."
Harris was born in the fall of 1964 to a Tamil Indian mother and a Jamaican father. India is, of course, known for chai tea and Jamaica, you might not know, for hibiscus tea. Both excellent influences for the breeding of tea lovers.
“Hibiscus tea is a herbal tea made as an infusion from crimson or deep magenta-colored calyces of the roselle flower. It is consumed both hot and cold. It has a tart, cranberry-like flavor.” -- Wikipedia
Tamil chai tea is made with milk, tea powder, and sugar. No water is used to keep it creamy.
Tea preparation and tea drinking require you to slow down. Personal tea rituals encourage thoughtful contemplation. The capacity for mindfulness is not a bad trait for a president.
(Heavy sigh). Hopefully in 2020, we will take back the tea party.
